C.GEN obtained development consent to build a 470MW gas-fired power station at North Killingholme on the south bank of the Humber Estuary in October 2014. This consent allows the construction of a highly flexible Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT), fired by natural gas with post-combustion carbon capture. The consent allows enables the use of use of syngas to fire the turbine, which would be produced from an on-site an integrated gasifier, with pre-combustion capture of carbon emissions.
C.GEN’s project is build-ready. The project has secured development consent alongside a high-pressure gas connection and the necessary capacity transmission contracts to deliver energy into the national grid.
In September 2021, C.GEN obtained approval for a non-material change to the development consent order, extending the deadline for implementation of the Project to October 2026.
C.GEN recently entered the project into Phase 2 of the UK’s CCUS deployment. BEIS is expected to announce successful projects in May 2022. Meanwhile BEIS has confirmed that the project complies with eligibility criteria and moves to full evaluation.
